Dr. George Hamlin Hoke, 87, of Avon, formerly of Lorain, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, August 3, 2012 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 27, 1925 in Cleveland, to the late Dorothy (nee Hamlin) and George Alvin Hoke.
Dr. Hoke was a prominent area neurosurgeon who gained extensive surgical experience while he served in the U.S. Army. He established the very first Lorain County practice of neurosurgery in 1955; he retired in 1991.
Dr. Hoke is survived by his wife, Laurie (nee Vasu), the love of his life to whom he was married for over 65 years; his children, Victoria Hoke Lane of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Martin R. (Maria) Hoke of Lakewood; his sister, Patricia Hoke Burrow of Grand Junction, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
The family cordially invites the community to a Memorial Concert celebrating the life of Dr. Hoke on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 6 P.M. in the George and Laurie Hoke Theatre in the Stocker Arts Center, Elyria. A reception will follow.
The Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, is entrusted with the arrangements.
