Kenneth M. Baker, 68, of LaGrange, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, following a long illness. He was born August 12, 1943 in Elyria and was a LaGrange resident since 1999.
Ken worked for Tappan and Smith Jones before going to Invacare, where he worked as a machine operator for 24 years until November 2004, when he was diagnosed with dementia. A 1962 Elyria High School graduate, he was a member of the Elyria First Baptist Church and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany. He enjoyed camping, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a civil war re-enactor with the 23rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Company K. The highlight of his re-enacting career was to be able to participate in the 125th and 130th anniversary of Gettysburg.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Patricia “Patti” (nee Crawford); son, Stephen Baker of LaGrange; daughter, Amy (Matthew) Blair of North Ridgeville; grandson, William Blair; brother, Russell (Andrea) Baker of Pensacola, Florida; sister, Loretta (Ernie) Fuller of LaGrange; two nephews; six nieces; six aunts; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Mildred Baker; a sister, Nancy Baker; and an infant son.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 8, 2012, 4 until 7 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services will be Thursday, August 9, 2012, 10 A.M., at the Elyria First Baptist Church, 11400 LaGrange Rd., Elyria. Pastor Patrick Odle will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
