Gregory Robert Powell, 31, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, August 6, 2012. He was born June 22, 1981 in Lorain. Gregory was raised in Vermilion and Amherst and attended Lorain County Joint Vocational School in Oberlin, where he participated in the electrical program. He had been a lifetime resident of Lorain County.
Gregory loved his work and was employed as an electrician at Patrick Electric for 12 years. He loved attending social events with friends and loved cars, especially Mustangs. Gregory enjoyed bike riding and anything that kept him physically active. His family was the most important part of his life, especially spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his mother, Judy Ann Powell (nee Swanson) of Amherst; his father, Robert Gregory Powell and his wife Madeline of North Royalton; his sisters and their husbands, Melissa Sue and Eric Urban and their sons, Austin and Aaron of South Amherst, Carrie Ann and Eric Lundberg and their children Cameron and Tiffany and her daughter McKenna of Elyria; and his paternal grandfather Edward Powell and his wife Mae of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Louise Powell in 1982; his maternal grandparents, Charles in 1991 and Dorothy in 1981 Swanson.
Friends may call Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 10, 2012 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Christina Grace Kukuk, Pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Elyria, will officiate. Burial will be in New Russia Township, Cemetery.
