Man charged for alleged fridge raid

ELYRIA — An Elyria man was arrested after police said he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and stole a garbage bag filled with food.

At 1 p.m. Sunday, Megan Walsh called police and told them her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Fred Rudolph Jr., 30, had broken into their Fox Hill apartment and had stolen food from their refrigerator, leaving in a maroon Chevy Impala.

Megan Walsh said her sister, Erin, was not home, but she had recently broken up with Rudolph after he cheated on her. Walsh said she woke up when she heard a noise and saw Rudolph filling a garbage bag with food from the apartment. She said Rudolph left with the bag after she threatened to call police.

Police stopped a car matching the description of the Impala. Rudolph, a passenger in the car, denied stealing the food and said Erin was mad at him for cheating on her, so she called in the complaint.

Another passenger, Gerald Bodiford, 27, told police the food found in a garbage bag in the trunk was his and that he was taking it to his “baby momma’s house.”

Police said Megan Walsh provided a description of the food stolen — chicken wings, frozen chicken and popsicles — and it matched the food in the trunk of the Impala.

Rudolph was charged with burglary, and Bodiford with obstructing official business. They were transferred to Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
