LORAIN — Police said a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old were left unsupervised in a car while their mother had sex in a neighboring car.
Police were called to Super K, 5350 Leavitt Road, at 11:01 p.m. Aug. 6 when a woman reported seeing a 3-year-old on a coin-operated ride outside the store. The woman told police the child was unsupervised for approximately five minutes, and when she asked the boy where his mother was, he pointed to a black Toyota minivan in the parking lot.
The door of the minivan was open, according to a police report, and a 1-year-old was asleep in the vehicle. A security officer paged the license plate of the vehicle over the store’s public address system, but no one claimed the children.
Police said approximately five minutes after their arrival, a woman ran from behind the van and said she was the children’s mother. The 22-year-old woman told police she was in the neighboring vehicle with a 20-year-old Lorain man, and she admitted the two were having sex.
According to the report, the woman was not immediately charged, but a report was forwarded to Children Services and the prosecutor’s office regarding child endangering charges.
