WESTLAKE — A man, reportedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol was arrested after witnesses said he beat a Cleveland woman at Crocker Park in Westlake.
At 9:37 p.m. Tuesday, multiple witnesses reported seeing Mitchell Kuhn, 25, of Olive Street, Elyria, beating a woman in a parking lot near the Regal Crocker Park movie theater. One man managed to stop Kuhn by chasing him through the parking lot, where he was later subdued by police officers.
The victim, a 20-year-old Cleveland woman, was transported to St. John Medical Center, where she received stitches for cuts and bruises to her head. Kuhn complained of chest pains and was also transported to the same hospital that evening.
Police said the victim and Kuhn did not know each other, but Kuhn had been drinking and there were indications of illegal drug use.
Westlake police Capt. Guy Turner said he did not know what Kuhn’s motivations were for allegedly attacking the woman, but said the incident is currently under investigation.
Tests are also being done to determine what, if any, drugs Kuhn may have taken.
Kuhn is currently at Westlake City Jail facing a felonious assault charge, and possibly more charges.
The incident is the second at Crocker Park this month. On Saturday, Aug. 4, a North Ridgeville man was arrested at the theater for reportedly bringing a loaded handgun and knives to the showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
The man, Scott A. Smith, is facing charges of carrying concealed weapons and having weapons under disability. Smith’s lawyer contends that Smith brought the weapons to the theater for protection in the wake of the massacre at a midnight showing of the movie in Aurora, Colo., last month.
