Police log for Aug. 17, 2012

Elyria police

Tuesday, Aug. 14

12:58 p.m. — 200 block Lake Ave., man found with a bike reported stolen. Another man with him was found to have an airsoft or BB gun in his backpack, which was confiscated by police for evidence.

1:53 p.m. — 100 block Fairlawn Ave., resident had allowed an acquaintance to stay at her residence until she could enter drug rehabilitation. She let the friend borrow her vehicle, but was never returned. Car was towed in relation to an arrest. Resident also found two valuable rings missing from her home.

3:07 p.m. — 200 block Wesley Ave., a red 2002 Oldsmobile Alero’s rear window was shattered, with repairs approximated at $150.

8:33 p.m. — 300 block Yale Ave., a Raleigh 21-speed bicycle was reported stolen from an open garage.

10:04 p.m. — 500 block East Ave., siding was reported stolen from a house. Two suspects were questioned but denied involvement in the incident.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

10:03 a.m. — 300 block East Ave., a woman said someone broke into her apartment and stole a pack of cigarettes. She said the door was locked when she left, and the cigarettes were the only item missing.

3 p.m. — 100 block West Ave., a man told police he left his wallet on the counter of McDonald’s on East Broad Street while he was purchasing food. When he returned to the restaurant, the wallet was gone. A security tape showed the wallet was stolen by another customer, according to McDonald’s staff.

4:15 p.m. — 100 block Broad St., the manager of Rite Aid said a man entered the store and put six tubes of Colgate toothpaste in his pocket before riding away on a white girl’s mountain bike. She described the suspect as a black male, approximately 5-foot-7, 130 pounds, with a thin face and “bad teeth.”

5:30 p.m. — 1500 block West River Road N., Ebony Burks, 31, of Marion, arrested and charged with three counts of disorderly conduct. Police said Burks was intoxicated in a salon, causing a disturbance. Burks was found to have three warrants through the Elyria Police Department as well.

6:09 p.m. — 500 block Delaware Ave., a woman said she bought an item at a garage sale with a check for $8. She said she was checking her account and noticed she had been charged for a bounced check, and the check she wrote at the garage sale had been altered to $80. Police are investigating the incident.

Lorain police

Tuesday, Aug. 14

4:02 a.m. — 1600 block E. 28th St., reported breaking and entering of Key Foods. Police said the suspect broke the door handle and frame to gain entry to the building. Police said the power was also turned off at the building, so the security camera did not capture and image of the suspect. The business’s owner said nothing appeared to be missing.

11:41 a.m. — 100 block W. Erie Ave., reported theft from a vehicle parked in the 3000 block of Surf Ave.

2:30 p.m. — 3800 block Denver Ave., Henry Cordona, 58, 1000 block W. Second St., arrested and charged with domestic violence. Cordona’s girlfriend said Cordona cut her with a knife on her jaw and had been physically abusing her for a year. She said Cordona strangled her and threatened to kill her. Police said Cordona had one prior domestic violence conviction in 2001.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

12:32 p.m. — 2300 block Apple Ave., a 15-year-old boy was arrested on a warrant and charged with domestic violence and unruly juvenile. The boy’s mother told police her son grabbed a knife while they were arguing and then threatened to slash the tires on her car. She said he never touched her, but she was afraid for her safety.

6:30 p.m. — 100 block W. Erie Ave., a woman told police she was celebrating her birthday at Gil’s International Lounge on Sunday night when a woman she knew punched her in the face and stole $150 that was pinned on her shirt. The $150 was pinned on her shirt throughout the night as a birthday gift, she told police.

9:01 p.m. — 1200 block W. 22nd St., police responded to a domestic argument in which a male was reportedly swinging a knife at a female. Police said the suspect fled prior to the officer’s arrival, and no witnesses were willing to make a statement. Police said the tire of the woman’s vehicle had a knife blade stuck in it.

Wednesday, Aug. 8

9 a.m. — Granger Drive, residents advised someone stole various items from their vehicles.

6:40 p.m. — LaGrange Police Department, parent complained that his 17-year-old daughter was with a 21-year-old man at the local tattoo parlor.

Thursday, Aug. 9

2 p.m. — 200 block W. Main St., stolen tools from garage.

Friday, Aug. 10

11:20 p.m. — 200 block Pleasant, resident arrived home and found the back door kicked in.

Sunday, Aug. 12

12:30 a.m. — 100 block Keywood, loud music complaint.

Monday, Aug. 13

6 p.m. — Jeffery Burgos, 22, Wellington, charged with driving under suspension.

Grafton police

Monday, Aug. 6

1:36 p.m. — 36000 Estee Lane, suspicious man on a bike with a backpack.

Tuesday, Aug. 7

10:14 a.m. — 1000 block Wellfleet, a man complained that his neighbor has three or more large dogs and feels they are “vicious.” He stated there is a privacy fence “but they bark a lot when his kids put their hands through the fence.”

10:14 a.m. — 1000 block Center St., a woman advised that when her granddaughter was in the backyard with her dog, she was approached by a teen girl talking about her dog. The grandmother felt “uneasy about the teen girl and brought her granddaughter and dog in the house.”

1:54 p.m. — 1000 block Novak, a man complained that his neighbor is parking in his yard again and he wanted an officer to look at it. The man said that the vehicle is a couple inches in his yard. The officer was unable to tell if it was on his property or not, and the owner of the vehicle was not home. The officer asked the complainant if the man were to move it over a few inches would that be OK. The man stated “it would still be in his way even though it would no longer be in his yard.”

10:52 p.m. — 1000 block Novak, a man stated that his girlfriend’s brother stole money from his car. The money was returned.

Wednesday, Aug. 8

3:56 a.m. — Main Street, loud music and approximately 10 people outside being loud.

Thursday, Aug. 9

12:51 a.m. — 1000 block Jamie, report of someone tapping on a living room window.

Saturday, Aug. 11

9:21 p.m. — 1000 block Glendalough, juveniles running up to houses and ringing the door bell. Officers found 15 juveniles, who were turned over to their guardians.

Monday, Aug. 12

11:12 p.m. — 1000 block Elm, houses being egged.
