Russell W. Maier

Russell W. Maier, 90, a resident of Elyria for the past six years, and a former resident of Pensacola, Florida, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in Lorain. He was born October 19, 1921 in Cleveland.

Russell worked at Steel Improvement & Forge in Cleveland, as a Die Sinker for 44 years. He was always involved in church life and loved helping others in any way he could. He enjoyed his many volunteer opportunities as he loved people and learning about their lives. Russell had a great sense of humor and will be remembered as a kind man who loved people.

Survivors include his son, Thomas R. (wife Billie); daughters, Sharon L. Gilbert (husband Richard) and Annette L.; grandchildren, Allison (Gilbert) Broadfield (husband Arlen), David P., and Mark T. Maier (wife Christina) and great-grandchildren, John P., Thomas G., David H. and Maximilian M. Maier, Andrew G. and Adam Durk Broadfield.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie (nee Durk); parents, William and Esther (nee Heckel); brother, Robert and sister, Lois.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10 A.M. at Alger Cemetery, 16710 Bradgate Ave., Cleveland, (please meet inside gates). A service in Russ’s memory to celebrate his life will be held at the Wesleyan Village, 807 West Ave., Elyria, Friday, August 18, 2012 at 2 .P.M. Pastor Paul Jaster will officiate. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Russ Friday, August 17, 2012 from 5 to 8 P.M. at The Daniel L. Berry-Donald Marten & Sons Funeral Home, 26691 Detroit Rd., (1 mile West of Columbia Road, Westlake, Ohio).
