Elyria police

Thursday, Aug. 16

7:45 a.m. — 200 block Cornell Ave., reported burglary of a home. A man who lives in the home told police his laptop and book of checks were missing from his home, and the suspect placed two open mint wrappers in place of the laptop with the words “thank you” written on them.

10:30 a.m. — 900 block E. Broad St., Randall Perkins, 42, 200 block of Fairlawn Ave., arrested and charged with two counts of theft. The manager of Speedway said Perkins, who was banned from Speedway due to numerous thefts he committed there, took a 12-pack of beer without paying for it. She said Perkins entered the store the day before, wearing only underwear, a shirt and no shoes or socks, and took beer without paying. Police said Perkins was highly intoxicated and usually returns to Speedway after he is arrested.

12:20 p.m. — 500 block Bell Ave., Angela Shook, 45, 200 block of Louisiana Ave., arrested and charged with possession of drugs, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police said Shook had a pipe, testing positive for cocaine residue, marijuana and Oxycontin pills in her purse.

10:10 p.m. — 1500 block West River Road N., reported theft from an unlocked vehicle in the parking lot of Burger King. A woman told police her Planet Fitness gym bag, contact items and a Droid Incredible phone were stolen from her car. The woman said the only person in the restaurant or the parking lot during that time was a short and stocky bald white male, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans and riding a mountain bike.

11:43 p.m. — 1100 block Oakwood Drive, David Langford, 27, same address, arrested and charged with domestic violence. Langford’s girlfriend said Langford hit her in the face during an argument. Langford said the argument started over his girlfriend’s relationship with another man, but was only a verbal argument. Police said Langford’s girlfriend had visible redness on her face.

Tuesday, Aug. 14

4:02 a.m. — 1600 block E. 28th St., reported breaking and entering of Key Foods. Police said the suspect broke the door handle and frame to gain entry to the building. Police said the power was also turned off at the building, so the security camera did not capture and image of the suspect. The business’s owner said nothing appeared to be missing.

11:41 a.m. — 100 block W. Erie Ave., reported theft from a vehicle parked in the 3000 block of Surf Ave.

2:30 p.m. — 3800 block Denver Ave., Henry Cordona, 58, 1000 block W. Second St., arrested and charged with domestic violence. Cordona’s girlfriend said Cordona cut her with a knife on her jaw and had been physically abusing her for a year. She said Cordona strangled her and threatened to kill her. Police said Cordona had one prior domestic violence conviction in 2001.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

12:32 p.m. — 2300 block Apple Ave., a 15-year-old boy was arrested on a warrant and charged with domestic violence and unruly juvenile. The boy’s mother told police her son grabbed a knife while they were arguing and then threatened to slash the tires on her car. She said he never touched her, but she was afraid for her safety.

6:30 p.m. — 100 block W. Erie Ave., a woman told police she was celebrating her birthday at Gil’s International Lounge on Sunday night when a woman she knew punched her in the face and stole $150 that was pinned on her shirt. The $150 was pinned on her shirt throughout the night as a birthday gift, she told police.

9:01 p.m. — 1200 block W. 22nd St., police responded to a domestic argument in which a male was reportedly swinging a knife at a female. Police said the suspect fled prior to the officer’s arrival, and no witnesses were willing to make a statement. Police said the tire of the woman’s vehicle had a knife blade stuck in it.

Thursday, Aug. 16

11 a.m. — 1700 block Oberlin Ave., reported theft of $2,700 from Biggy’s Pub. The owner told police she was unable to contact an employee who was working when the money went missing and saw that the employee posted on her Facebook she was moving to Arizona to get married.

7:06 p.m. — 4600 block Oberlin Ave., Juan L. Diaz, 26, East 29th Street, arrested and charged with petty theft. An employee at Dollar General identified Diaz as a man who stole a cell phone from the store. Diaz denied stealing the phone.

9:54 p.m. — 900 block W. 18th St., reported theft of a lawnmower from a garage. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.
