Ellsworth G. Hales, 96, of Elyria, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, after a brief illness. He was born March 27, 1916 in Elyria.
He was a 1934 graduate of Elyria High School and served with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. Ellsworth worked in the family business, Hales Complete Food Market on Middle Avenue in Elyria, as a meat cutter, until retiring in 1975. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elyria and Elyria Senior Fellowship. For 30 years, he and his wife enjoyed spending the winters at their home in St. Petersburg, Florida. His other interests were traveling and working in the yard with his flowers.
Ellsworth is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris E. (nee Hiskey); and three children.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Ethel Hales; brothers, Lawrence and John Hales; and a sister, Irene Stone.
Friends will be received Thursday, August 30, 2012, from 10 A.M. until the time of an 11 A.M. Funeral service, at First Baptist Church of Elyria, 11400 LaGrange Rd., Elyria. Reverend Patrick Odle will officiate, with burial in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
