North Ridgeville home destroyed by fire

NORTH RIDGEVILLE – A fire destroyed a family’s home in the 5300 block of Main Ave. this afternoon.

The North Ridgeville Fire Department arrived at the home to find it engulfed in flames. A neighbor’s girlfriend, Erika Pavlovich, said she saw the fire through a window, and her boyfriend, Mike Talley, kicked open the door of the home to make sure no one was inside.

The residents were not home, according to Assistant Fire Chief John Reese, who said by the time the Fire Department arrived, the fire had spread.

“We had very little chance of putting the fire out,” Reese said, adding that the home was lost.

The family lost their son last year, and his ashes were found in a partially burned urn in the home. Neighbors said the mother of the man, Karen Hartman, had to be pulled away from the burning home as she tried to retrieve his ashes.

Reese said the Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, but the cause is not yet known.
