DAYTON — Ohio Democrats at the national convention in Charlotte, N.C., are taking aim at what they call “voter suppression” efforts by Republicans, including Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.
The Dayton Daily News reported that on Monday the delegation honored two Montgomery County elections board members fired by Husted for refusing to rescind weekend voting hours. Husted, a Republican, dismissed Thomas Ritchie Sr. and Dennis Lieberman last week for failing to follow his directive.
The newspaper reports that Ritchie and Lieberman got a standing ovation from the 225-member delegation when they were called to the stage Monday by Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern.
Husted ordered election boards in Ohio’s 88 counties to have the same in-person, early voting hours on weekdays and to have no hours on weekends.
