ELYRIA — Two people were injured overnight after a man brandished a sword, according to police.
Michael D. Butler, 30, was arrested just after noon today and charged with two counts of felonious assault.
Officers were called to 217 Chestnut St. about 11:10 last night, according to a police report.
Chris Metelsky, 23, was found with a 3-4 inch gash on the top of his head as well as a cut to his left shoulder blade. Toni Metelsky, 20, had an injury to her left shoulder blade as well.
Butler entered another man’s apartment where Chris and Toni Metelsky were watching TV and got into an argument with Chris Metelsky about money that was owed to him, the report said.
He then unsheathed his Kantana sword, and slashed Toni Metelsky. Chris Metelsky attempted to disarm him and was injured as well, the report said.
Two people in a nearby apartment told police they had seen Butler with the sword prior to the altercation, adding that he “usually carries it about the residence.”
According to the report, officers went to a tent in the backyard where Butler is residing and found a sheath for a sword and a black Tanto sword on a chair. The Kantana sword was found in the apartment where the attack took place, the report said.
Chris and Toni Metelsky were taken to EMH Regional Medical Center by LifeCare, the report said, but the hospital didn’t have any information on them today.
