ELYRIA — West River Road North, which earlier this summer closed to southbound traffic to give contractors room to widen the road, is open.
Aaron Klein, the city’s assistant engineer, said the road opened in both directions shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday. When the road closed in July, contractors said they needed between 60 and 90 days to do the work to reopen the road.
The opening comes a few days shy of 60 days on the project, Klein said.
“They still have punch-list items they need to take care of, but traffic will be maintained in both directions going forward,” he said. “The mailman will start delivering (today) for residents along the road and trash pick-up will also return to normal.”
As far as the overall job, Klein said completion is set for November.
The project stretched from state Route 254 to state Route 57 and cost an estimated $4.3 million.
