Palace Theater show features performers from ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ ‘American Idol’

LORAIN — A program called “Ballroom With a Twist” brought some familiar faces — and some stunning music and dance moves — to the Palace Theater on Saturday.

Ashly DelGrosso-Costa and Jonathan Roberts of “Dancing With The Stars” kicked up their heels along with “So You Think You Can Dance” finalists Randi Lynn Strong and Jonathan Palerto and a crew of other dancers.

Those who prefer music got to hear “American Idol” finalists Gina Glocksen of season six and David Hernandez of season seven.

Among the happy audience members were Carol Wynkoop and Angie Niehart, both of Amherst.

They thought it was especially fun when Roberts and DelGrosso-Costa instructed the audience to get up and take part in a few dance moves.

“They got us all dancing,” Wynkoop said. “It was hilarious.”

During a break between the two performances, Roberts said a man would be wise to take their significant other dancing every now and then.

“You don’t even have to be good to make a woman happy,” he said with a laugh.

DelGrosso-Costa said being in the spotlight with celebrity dancers on the television show is a lot of fun.

Her best showing was on season on, when she partnered with New Kids on the Block singer Joey McIntyre, coming in third.

She said she got a kick out of dancing with 80-year-old astronaut Buzz Aldrin, even if they were the first to be eliminated.

“He really tried,” she said.

Also wowing the crowds was Strong, who specializes in jazz-contemporary dance.

“There’s nothing like being on stage,” Strong said.

In coming months, other live performances at the Palace will include The Amazing Kreskin on Oct. 27, the Roots & Boots Tour 2012 on Nov. 23, the Spirit of Christmas on Dec. 8 and 9 and Restless Heart on March 9, 2013, according to Scott Muska, Palace Board treasurer.
