AVON — A man hit on Insterstate 90 this morning has died, according to the Fire Department.
The man, who was reportedly 60 years old, was hit shortly after 9 a.m. near the Nagel overpass in the westbound lanes, according to Avon Fire Capt. Mike Emling.
Emling couldn’t say for sure whether the man was a construction worker but said construction is continuing on the Nagle overpass, and workers would have been in the area.
Emling had described the man’s injuries as “pretty bad” and confirmed his leg had been amputated.
The man was taken to the EMH Avon Emergency Care Center, where he died.
According to initial reports from the scene, the vehicle involved was a gold SUV, and it may have also struck a construction vehicle in addition to the man. It was not immediately known whether anyone else was injured.
I-90′s westbound lanes were closed between Crocker Road and state Route 83 for about five hours and were backed up at least into Rocky River.
