Kentucky judge agrees to return murder suspect to Lorain

A Kentucky judge has agreed to return Albert Fine to Lorain County to face charges that he strangled his girlfriend and hid her body in a storage area at the Lorain apartment complex where the couple lived.

Jason Rothrock, director of prosecutions for the Fayette County Attorney’s Office, said prosecutors provided sufficient evidence during Thursday’s hearing to prove that Fine, 30, was indeed the man sought in connection with the slaying of Catherine “Kat” Hoholski.

Fine had been contesting his extradition back to Ohio in the case.

He was arrested in a Lowe’s parking lot in Lexington on Aug. 9, a day after Hoholski’s body was discovered by authorities.

Residents of the Villas of Beau Monde apartments had been complaining for weeks about the smell in the area where her body was found.

Rothrock said a review hearing was set for next month, but he expects that Fine will have been returned to Ohio by then and the hearing will be a brief formality.

“We’re supposed to house him until the Ohio folks come and get him,” he said.

Lorain Police Lt. Mark Carpentiere said local authorities are still in the process of preparing the governor’s warrant that is necessary before Fine can be brought back to Ohio.

He said the investigation into the slaying has largely been completed, but declined to release additional details about the killing.

Hoholski had been dead for approximately one month when her body was found. Her mother, Jane Hoholski, reported her missing on July 12.

She told police she last saw her daughter on June 28 after a visit to MetroHealth Medical Center to visit Catherine Hoholski’s daughter, Jasmine Rose Fine, who was born premature in March and then hospitalized for months.

Following her daughter’s disappearance, Jane Hoholski told police that Fine continued to visit Jasmine with her and he had told her that he also had not heard from Catherine Hoholski.
