Andrew Georgas

Andrew Georgas, 51, of Lorain, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at The Cleveland Clinic, following a brief illness.

Andrew was born January 31, 1961 in Lorain, to George and Koula (nee Kiousis) Georgas. He graduated from Admiral King High School in 1979. He attended The University of Akron and Lorain County Community College. He was an avid football player in high school and in college.

For over 23 years, he was the passionate owner of The Original Garden Basket in Elyria. Prior to that, he was a real estate agent in Lorain County for several years.

Andrew was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Lorain, where he had served on the parish council.

He enjoyed coaching football and had also coached the church’s youth basketball teams. He will always be remembered by his friends and family as a devoted husband, loving father and a dear friend to many. He will truly be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Elaine (nee Marusin); his son, Peter Georgas, at home; his parents, George and Koula Georgas of Lorain; his sisters, Connie (Albert) Matlin of Oberlin and Anastasia “Stacy” (Marcus) Acord of Wake Forest, North Carolina; his mother-in-law, Lottie (Dalbert) Gurnack of Lorain; his father-in-law, Anthony Marusin of Lorain; his sister-in-laws, Beverly (Richard) Alaksa and Diane Cline; his brother-in-law, Jim (Emmy) Marusin; and many nieces and nephews.

The Georgas family will receive friends on Monday, September 17, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, where a Trisayion service will be held at 7 P.M. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 10 A.M. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd, Lorain. Rev. Michael Gulgas, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
