Phyllis M. “Punky” Thomas

Phyllis M. “Punky” Thomas (nee Dunker), 77, of Lorain, died Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Kingston of Vermilion, after a seven year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born September 16, 1934 in Avon Lake and had resided in Lorain for 43 years. She had been a resident of Kingston of Vermilion for the past three years.

Phyllis was a graduate of Avon Lake High School. She worked at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake in the Human Resources Department for 35 years retiring in 1992.

Phyllis was a member of the BF Goodrich Retirees Club. She enjoyed reading, bowling, camping, theater, traveling, big band music, collecting bells and figurines, and watching sports. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George M. “Mickey” Thomas; children, Anne Marie Thomas of Elyria, Roy Thomas of Chillicothe, John Thomas of Lorain, Laura (Jim) Means of Penn Hill, Pennsylvania and Steven (Shannon) Thomas of Avon Lake; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Mullen of Avon Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Hazel Dunker (nee Phillips); and brothers, William and Charles Dunker.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 17, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 10 A.M. in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
