ELYRIA — A 17-year-old Elyria boy has been certified to the juvenile court after another teen said he shot her in the eye with a BB gun.
According to a police report, the 14-year-old girl came home with damage to her eye Sept. 8 and told her mother she had run into a wall.
Her mother told police she took her daughter to EMH Regional Medical Center and followed up with several trips to an eye specialist.
Over the weekend, another juvenile in the neighborhood, an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Middle Avenue, told the girl’s mother that she had not run into a wall but had been shot in the eye.
The girl eventually admitted what happened, saying she didn’t want the boy to get in trouble.
The teen denied shooting the girl in the eye when asked by the girl’s mother but admitted what had happened when a police officer confronted him, the report said.
The boy said the shooting was an accident, and he believed the gun was not loaded when he pointed it at the girl and pulled the trigger.
