Laura Ann Green Stout, Ph.D.

Laura Ann Green Stout, Ph.D., beloved wife of David; loving mother of Jonathan; cherished daughter of Joseph and Sylvia Green; adored sister of Cynthia Green, New Jersey; cherished sister-in-law and aunt of the Stout family, St. Louis; and beloved cousin of the Stern/Norkin family of Maryland, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012 after a courageous and valiant seven year battle against metastatic breast cancer. Laura was born in Hackensack and was raised in Bergenfield, New Jersey.

She received a BA in English and Education at Douglas College in 1972 and was Phi Beta Kappa. She taught high school English for six years. While teaching she was one of two founders of the Coolidge Alternate School in Saddlebrrok, New Jersey which educated at-risk teenagers. In 1978 she left teaching to earn a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Rhode Island where she moved next door to her soulmate and future husband, David. Together they pulled each other through a Master’s degree, two Ph.D.’s, a medical degree and raising their beloved son, Jonathan. They moved to Cleveland in 1988. Laura joined the staff of the Family Practice Residency Program at Fairview Hospital where she taught Behavioral Science from 1991 to 1997. In 1994, she began her private practice in Psychology, joining Clinical Counseling Associates in Rocky River. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997. After treatment she devoted a large portion of her practice counseling breast cancer patients and survivors. She h
elped many women and their families deal with cancer treatments and its aftermath. Laura devoted her entire life to helping others. She was a gifted Psychologist, a loving wife, a wonderful mother and a dear friend to many. Her empathy knew no bounds and her calming spirit comforted many a troubled soul. She loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, gardening, and the ocean.

She and her family thank all of their friends, family and Laura’s sisters of her heart for their love and help over the years.

Services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 10 A.M. at Beth Israel-The West Temple, 14308 Triskett Road, Cleveland, Ohio. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, Westlake Ohio. Family will receive friends at the residence 31731 Tradewinnds Dr., Avon Lake, following Services and Interment Wednesday, September 19 until 3 P.M., Wednesday evening 7 to 9 P.M.; Thursday evening September, 20 from 7 to 9 P.M.; and Friday, September 21 from 3 to 5 P.M.
