Man arrested after running red light, fleeing police

ELYRIA — An Elyria man was arrested and faces a number of charges after he fled from police during a traffic stop overnight.

Truxhall

Charles C. Truxhall, 22, is charged with obstructing official business, assault on a police officer, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, running a red light, failure to comply and no driver’s license, according to a police report.

An officer was en route to an alarm on Olive Street at 8:20 last night when he saw Truxhall run a red light at a high rate of speed at Broad Street and East Bridge Street.

The officer tried to pull over the Ford F-150 Truxhall was driving. Truxhall did not pull over and instead ended up pulling off in the parking lot of the Train Station and jumping from the vehicle and running toward the railroad tracks, the report said.

The officer pursued Truxhall on foot for several minutes, yelling for him to stop, which he did not, the report said. Truxhall then slipped on some rocks and fell, the report said, and the officer was able to tackle him. As the officer did so, Truxhall kicked the officer, and the officer responded by striking him on his cheek with an open hand.

Truxhall was then taken into custody.

Truxhall, who was crying, told the officer that he had stolen the truck from his mother, the report said.

Police contacted Truxhall’s mother, and she said she was not aware her truck had been stolen but did want to pursue charges against her son for doing so.

Truxhall, who police learned did not have a driver’s license, was taken to the Lorain County Jail, and while en route there he began banging his head against the cage of a police cruiser, the report said.

He was jailed on $8,210 bond and remains at the Lorain County Jail this afternoon.
