William “Bill” Gresco, 85, of Elyria, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, Avon. He was born December 18, 1926 in Hastings, Pennsylvania.
He retired from TRW in 1987 as a supervisor, and went into home building in Sheffield Lake for over 10 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran during WWII serving in the South Pacific, including Japan, where he was a member of 43rd engineer construction batallion. After the war, he served as an apprentice for “Chef Boyardee”. He was a former member of the AMVETS of Avon Lake, and lifetime member VFW Post 8686 in Sheffield Lake, where he served as past commander. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors, woodworking, and making birdhouses, BINGO, and traveling to many places.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol (nee Liszkowski) Gresco; six children, MaryAnn (Chuck) Nowak, Allen “Butch” (Mary), Ron (Kathy), Dale (Kris, deceased), Rene (Rick) Webb, Laurie Gresco; 12 grandchildren, Lisa, Maria, Brittany, Natalie, Michael, Kate, Joey, Samantha, Carolyn, Erikka, Sarah, and Barry; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice (Buddy) Demento, Betty (Clair) Bush, Sylvia Ann (John) Bills; one brother, Alfred (Patricia) Gresco; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary (nee Martin) Gresco; and his first wife, Betty Gresco.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, September 19, 2012 from 4 P.M. until time of parlor service at 7:30 P.M. at the isencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon, with the Reverend Keil Nunn officiating, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Sheffield Lake. Interment will be private.
