AMHERST — The city will soon have a new bike trail thanks to a $2 million grant from the Northeast Ohio Area Coordinating Agency.
The trail will connect Beaver Creek Reservation, at 913 N. Lake St., with the new Mercy Recreation and Health Center, at 47160 Hollstein Drive. The metropolitan planning organization allocates federal funding for transportation projects in Lorain, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Medina counties.
Lorain County Metro Parks secured the grant for the project, which will begin soon, according to Lorain County Metro Parks spokeswoman Vanessa Klesta. Klesta said there is no estimated finish date, as the length of the construction depends on the weather.
The Mercy center is under construction and expected to open in January, according to Lorain County Metro Park’s website. The 50,000-square-foot facility is on the district’s new Hollstein Reservation and will offer an eight-lane competition swimming pool with a slide, aerobics, nautilus equipment and a walking track.
