ELYRIA — George Diederich was sentenced today to two years in prison for a January 2011 drunken driving car crash that killed his wife.
Diederich, 77, said during today’s hearing that he was remorseful for his actions that led to the death of 53-year-old Jean Ann Diederich.
The sentence imposed by Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge was the minimum sentence that he could have handed down. Burge said if he could have he would have placed Diederich on probation.
Diederich, who owns Pudge’s Place in Elyria, was driving east on Erhart Road in Grafton Township when his rented 2010 Nissan Versa veered off the road and slid about 500 feet before flipping and ejecting Jean Ann Diederich, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
George Diederich had a blood alcohol level of 0.149 percent, well above the legal limit of 0.08, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
