June C. Alexander (nee Carter), 92, of Amherst, passed away Friday, September 14, 2012, at Huntington Woods Health and Rehab Center in Westlake, following a brief illness. She was born May 1, 1920, in Amherst, and was a lifelong Amherst resident.
June was employed as a teacher with the Elyria Public Schools for many years. She was a member of the Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ, the leader of the June Alexander Band and enjoyed reading and music.
Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia “Sue” (John) Riegler of Austin, Texas; sons, Charles (Hannah) Alexander Jr, PhD. of Westlake and James (Sandy) Alexander of Elyria; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alexander Sr.; and brothers, John, James, and George Carter.
The family will receive friends Monday, September 24, 2012, from 4 P.M. until the time of services at 7 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Reverend Attila Szemesi will officiate. Burial will be private.
