Police said Aponte and Hernandez stole plywood and a door from an unattached garage in the 1700 block E. 30th St. Aponte told police he thought the property was abandoned and that he could take the wood but later said a city worker gave him permission, although he couldn’t name the worker. Aponte said Hernandez assisted him in carrying the items. Perez reportedly purchased the plywood and door from the men and told police he bought it for a friend who was fixing up his home.
