Vernon L. “Pat” Smith, 93, of North Ridgeville, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at his son’s home in Elyria, following a long illness. Born in Fields Corners, he was a lifelong resident of North Ridgeville.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Battle of the Bulge. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was a farmer his whole life, working with his sister’s family, Sweet’s Farms.
Survivors include his former wife and companion of many years, Millie Smith; son, Patrick (Deanna Sadowski) Smith of Elyria; three step sons, Bruce (Jackie) Marion, Keith (Debbie) Marion and Craig (Maureen) Marion, all of California; granddaughter, Amber Smith; great grandson, Nathan Wright; several step grand and great grandchildren; sister, Alice Vanek of Elyria; and brother, Keith (Rusty) Smith of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mable (nee Yost) Smith; daughter, Patricia Smith in 2010; sister, Lorna (Harold) Sweet; brother, Alan “Whitey” (Roberta) Smith; and brother-in-law, Roger Vanek.
A celebration of his life will be held at his home at a later date. Private burial will be in West River Road Cemetery in Columbia Township.
