LORAIN — A Lorain man told police he was robbed Tuesday afternoon while he was purchasing marijuana from a man he knew.
Police met with 21-year-old Franklin Bailey at 1:59 p.m. at 4112 Gary Ave. after Bailey was reportedly assaulted. Police said Bailey had a bloody nose and a cut on the left side of his nose.
Bailey told police he was met with a drug dealer he knew at the apartment complex when the dealer, and another man, later identified as Jacob Kallas, 21, knocked him on the ground and punched him several times. He said the men then went through his pockets, taking $100 in cash.
Bailey said he managed to escaped and chased Kallas and the other man out of the apartment building, as people came out of their apartments to see what was going on. The men fled toward East 41st Street and Gary Avenue as Bailey called police from the parking lot.
Police later found Kallas at his home and reported that Kallas’s face was red as if he had been in an altercation. Kallas was arrested and charged with robbery.
Police were unable to locate the other man, and Kallas said he did not know where he was.
Kallas told police he was trying to break up the fight between Bailey and the other man, but was pushed away. Kallas said he saw the man rob Bailey, but he ran from the area because he was scared.
