Jon Edward Fahrney

Jon Edward Fahrney, 70, and a resident of Birmingham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at the Specialty Hospital in Amherst, following a brief illness. He was born May 13, 1942 in Amherst.

Jon was raised in South Amherst and graduated from South Amherst High School in the class of 1960. He had made his home in Birmingham for the last 42 years. Jon proudly served for four years in the United States Navy. He was employed at the U.S. Steel in Lorain for 37 years. Jon was a man of strong faith, an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Vermilion. Jon enjoyed the fellowship he had with the Men’s Bible Study. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

Jon leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years, Joan Fahrney (nee Berkmeyer); his son and his wife, Mark and Denise Fahrney of Huron; his daughter and her husband, Lisa and Al Gallo of Brownhelm Township; his grandchildren, Sarah and Joshua; his sisters, Jackie Wheland of Huron, Marilyn Steffl and her husband Larry of Elyria; and loved by many nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bertha Fahrney (nee Frohofer).

Friends may call Friday, September 28, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 11 A.M. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 15617 Mason Road, Vermilion. Dr. Karl Fry, Pastor, will officiate. Full military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. Burial will be in Birmingham Cemetery, Birmingham.
