Man arrested for masturbating in middle school parking lot

VERMILION — A 65-year-old Wakeman man was arrested after a 12-year-old boy said he saw the man masturbating in a car outside of Sailorway Middle School.

On Sept. 11, police received a report that the man, later identified as Billy McCauley, was masturbating in the parking lot as students were leaving from school. A 12-year-old was walking to his mother’s car when he saw McCauley, who was reportedly “playing with himself,” police said.

The boy told his mother McCauley had his shorts pulled down, his shirt pulled up to his bellybutton and his hand was on his genitals, “massaging” it. The boy’s mother asked her son if McCauley had said anything to him, but the boy said he did not.

The boy’s mother said she walked by McCauley, who she said was in a reclined position in his car, with his shorts pulled up higher on one side and his shirt pulled up to his belly button.

Police later located McCauley, who said he was in the parking lot to pick up his grandchild from school. McCauley said he had his windows rolled down and his shirt rolled up because of the heat, but he denied he was masturbating.

The investigation was then sent to the city prosecutor, who requested that McCauley be charged with one count of public indecency. He was arrested Wednesday and later released with a court date at 9 a.m. Oct. 2.
