Browns safety Ray Ventrone calls Ravens dirty

BEREA – Browns safety/special teamer Ray “Bubba” Ventrone accused the Ravens offense of playing dirty Thursday night in Baltimore’s 23-16 win.

“I know that they were playing dirty on offense,” he said Friday. “Watch the film, man. There was some dirty stuff going on.”

Ventrone declined to get into specifics, but didn’t include the concussion-causing hit on punt returner Joshua Cribbs by Dannell Ellerbe.

“It was a good play by their guy,” Ventrone said.

The Browns and Ravens play twice a year in the AFC North, and Ventrone said the actions Thursday night hit a new level.

“Again, I don’t want to get into specifics just ’cause I don’t want to be the guy to stir the pot,” said Ventrone, who was the game captain. “But I’m just saying I think they were doing a lot of extracurricular stuff.

“There was just stuff that was happening after the play, during the play. There was some unnecessary stuff that was happening to our defensive backs most specifically.”

Safeties Usama Young and Tashaun Gipson suffered knee injuries, but Ventrone said they weren’t the result of dirty play.

“No one was hurt by any of the stuff,” he said. ‘Thank God. But I think there were some cheap shots for sure.”

Ventrone wasn’t alone. Cornerback Dimitri Patterson seconded the notion without giving details.

“It sure wasn’t clean,” he said. “I’m going to leave that there. I’m not going to really get into all the dirty or cheap shots and all that, because at this point it doesn’t really matter.

“The good thing about it is we play them again and that’s a good thing. So I’m going to just leave it at that.”

The Ravens visit Cleveland on Nov. 4.
