William A. DeChant

William A. DeChant, Lt. Col. USAF, 72, of Imperial Plaza, Richmond, Virginia, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012. He was born in Avon.

Bill retired from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service as a master navigator in the B-52. In retirement, he served in a variety of positions at General Industries, Vermilion Hardware, Riddle Funeral Home and Lorain Catholic High School, all in Ohio. He was an avid gardener and nature photographer who enjoyed traveling on many local adventures.

He is survived by three children, Col. Connie Meskill and husband, Bill and their two sons, David and Mark of Burke, Virginia, Reynold DeChant and his wife, Lynn, and their three daughters, Annabel, Katelyn and Elizabeth of North Ridgeville and Virginia DeChant, D.V.M of Goochland, Virginia; sisters, Sr. Mary St. Leo DeChant, SND of Chardon, Ohio and Pauline Burke of Grafton; and devoted friend, Shirley Vaughan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou DeChant; and daughter, Heidi.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 P.M., Monday, October 1, 2012 at Bliley’s-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, Virginia, where a service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Family and friends will gather from 2 to 4 P.M., Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Tom’s Country Place, Avon.
