Police log for Oct. 2, 2012

Lorain police

Saturday, Sept. 29

11:45 a.m. — 1300 block Massachusetts Ave, resident said $250 lawnmower and gas can stolen off back patio of home overnight.

5:14 p.m. — 3300 block of Eagle Ave., woman said a man she has a temporary protection order against came to her home and threatened to break into her residence at night and, “(expletive) her up.” The woman signed a violation of a protection order and was advised to contact the prosecutor’s office.

5:17 p.m. — Police Department, 100 W. Erie Ave., woman said ex-boyfriend has made numerous threatening phone calls and sent threatening text messages including one that said, “You’re dead (expletive).” Police said the last address the woman give for the man was several years old and advised her to contact the prosecutor’s office.

10:53 p.m. — 100 block Burns Road, resident said her home was burglarized while she was away.

10:53 p.m. — 100 block Burns Road, resident said her home was burglarized while she was away with about $200 in cash and jewelry stolen. Police said the front door jamb to the home was smashed and a window was opened with the screen removed and the window blinds on the carpet.

11:12 p.m. — 5500 block S. Nantucket Drive, reported burglary of a home.

Sunday, Sept.30

9:39 a.m. — 900 block W. 7th St., Demetrius D. Hamilton, 21, same address, arrested and charged with felony domestic violence. Hamilton’s sister said Hamilton threatened to kill her baby and then punched her and kicked her in the stomach after and argument over a video game. The woman’s cousin told police he witnessed Hamilton kicking his sister, who is five months pregnant.

10:31 a.m. — 500 block W. 25th St., a suspect reportedly broke into an unattached shed and stole a snow blower, lawn mower, chainsaw and tools.

11:19 a.m. — 3000 block Gary Ave., Celia L. Shelton, 32, 1000 block of Bohannon Court, arrested and charged with domestic violence and theft. Police reported hearing Shelton threaten the father of her child over the phone, saying that she would burn the house down with him in it if she caught him with another woman. The man told police he has a temporary restraining order against Shelton and that she broke into his car and stole his briefcase full of court documents and evidence against her. Police said Shelton admitted to the theft and stealing and cashing on of his checks, but she said she needed the check to pay for child support the man wasn’t paying.

11:39 a.m. — 2800 block Marshall Drive, reported attempted burglary of a home. A man who lived in the home said the suspect broke a decorative window with a brick but did not appear to enter the house.

2:48 p.m. — 2400 block E. 32nd St., reported theft of a GPS from a vehicle.

11:37 p.m. — 2000 block W. 21st St., a woman reported a man holding a black revolver asked her if she was Teresa who works at Shaks Corner Store while she was walking on W. 21st Street near Pole Avenue. The woman said when she told the man she was not Teresa, he fled southbound toward W. 22nd Street. The man was described as a dark-skinned black male in his early 40s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches and 260 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a dark shirt.

10:16 p.m. — 10600 block Indian Hollow Road in Carlisle Township, domestic disturbance.­

Wednesday, Sept. 19

11:11 a.m. — 5600 block of Liberty Ave., police investigated a complaint of juveniles vandalizing the restrooms at Ritter Public Library, which happened Sept. 5 and 13.

4:12 p.m. — 1400 block of Vermilion Road, reported burglary of a home.

6:37 p.m. — Liberty Avenue and West River Road, Wilbur L. Hamilton III, arrested and charged with driving under suspension and possession of dangerous drugs. Police said four a pills were found in Hamilton’s vehicle.

7:11 p.m. — 5000 block of Portage Drive, reported burglary of a home. A man who lived in the home said the screen door to his back door was cut and the door was open, but nothing appeared to be missing.

7:15 p.m. — 900 block of State St., reported theft of a wallet and cigarettes from a vehicle.

Thursday, Sept. 20

9:52 a.m. — 5200 block of Portage Drive, reported burglary of a home. A small amount of cash was reportedly taken.

Friday, Sept. 21

5:19 p.m. — 4200 block of Brownhelm St., reported vandalism to a vehicle.

Saturday, Sept. 22

2:51 a.m. — 300 block of Fairfax Road, Jeremiah Pennington arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, second offense, and reasonable control. Police were sent to the scene of a roll over crash on Fairfax Road. Witnesses said three people left the vehicle and walked into a house nearby. A woman in the house, wearing pajama bottoms and dry tennis shoes, said she was driving the vehicle, but when police questioned her she reportedly said she was not going to lie for him and walked out of the house crying. Pennington, who also was in the home, admitted to driving the vehicle, but said he crashed due to a faulty tire rod. Police said Pennington failed a field sobriety test but refused to take a breath test.

Monday, Sept. 24

4:41 p.m. — 1100 block of West River Road, reported theft of a green Huffy bicycle from a yard. The owner of the bicycle said someone also had stolen another bicycle the previous day.

Amherst police

Wednesday, Sept. 26

3:12 a.m. — 900 block of N. Leavitt Road, Brandon McAvena arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, blood-alcohol content over 0.170 percent and obstructing official business. A woman leaving Aldi supermarket said she was almost struck by McAvena, who pulled into Chipotle before “peeling out” and driving recklessly through the Blue Sky Restaurant plaza into the Sunoco parking lot. The woman said McAvena then pulled into Taco Bell into front of the sprinklers and backed up and pulled forward as if he was washing his car with the sprinklers. McAvena denied being at Aldi’s or Chipotle. Police said McAvena was visibly intoxicated.

Thursday, Sept. 27

9:25 p.m. — 175 N. Leavitt Road, Patricia Weaver charged with underage liquor sales to a minor. Weaver is an employee at Convenient Food Mart.

9:51 p.m. — 900 block of N. Leavitt Road, Heather Simkins charged with underage liquor sales to a minor. Simkins is an employee at Sunoco.

Sunday, Sept. 30

1:07 a.m. — 700 block of N. Leavitt Road, Alan Noll arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, loud exhaust and display of plates.
