Early voters flock to elections board on first day

The first day of early voting this election season saw 666 voters cast their ballots on Tuesday.

Lorain County Board of Elections Director Paul Adams said when the doors opened at 8 a.m., the line was nearly to the parking lot of the board offices at 1985 North Ridge Road E., Sheffield Township.

Adams said the lines stretched out the door until the early afternoon but began tapering off after that although voters were still casting ballots at the 30 electronic voting machines the elections board has put out.

“We anticipated right at the beginning there would be a line out the door,” Adams said. “To have that continue through the day we were prepared for, but we weren’t expecting it.”

Adams said he anticipates the number of early voters will be smaller today.
