The woman, who lives in the 1100 block of Hillsdale Avenue, told police she was standing in her kitchen when she heard the garage door leading to her laundry room open. When she turned around, she saw a man standing in the laundry room.

The woman reportedly asked, “Who are you?” and the man replied, “I don’t know.” According to a police report, the woman told the suspect to “get out,” and he said, “OK” and left.

Police said the woman was not injured and her property was not taken or damaged.

Police found the suspect, identified as Amador Cotto, 31, of the 1000 block of West 14th Street, at Allison Avenue and West 12th Street. He was arrested and charged with burglary after the woman positively identified Cotto as the man who entered her home.

Cotto told police he “didn’t know what he was doing.”

He said he was walking down Hillsdale Avenue when he noticed the garage door of the woman’s home was open.

He told police he walked into the garage, saw the homeowner and told her, “Oh my God, I don’t know what I’m doing.”

The man said he threw his hat and coat in the road and began walking back to his own home.

Cotto does not have any burglary convictions in Lorain but was convicted of domestic violence twice — in May 2011 and August 2012 — according to court documents.
