The driver, Mikail Rodriguez, 20, crashed a white 2006 Saturn into a cement pipe in front of 3901 Leavitt Road at 1:11 a.m. Wednesday. Police said Rodriguez then fled the scene, leaving four injured passengers, including his 3-year-old daughter and the child’s mother, in the vehicle.
The chase began in Amherst after an officer tried to pull Rodriguez over for numerous traffic violations, police said. Officers and a K-9 unit later located Rodriguez hiding behind 2101 W. 39th St.
Police said the passengers in the vehicle Rodriguez was driving all denied knowing Rodriguez. A passenger, Javonte Adams, 20, of Lorain, was arrested on warrants from the Lorain Police Department, Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and North Ridgeville Police Department.
Police said Adams gave a false name to police officers and was with a woman in the car who had a protection order against him.
Adams was charged with violation of a temporary protection order and obstructing official business. He was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center for treatment and then to Lorain City Jail.
Rodriguez was transferred to Mercy, where he refused to give police a blood test.
Police said Rodriguez appeared to be intoxicated, had a suspended license and a protection order from Adams, who was a passenger in the vehicle.
He was charged with violation of a temporary protection order, obstructing official business, endangering children, failure to control, driving with intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under suspension and underage persons purchase prohibition.
Rodriguez was arraigned Wednesday in Lorain Municipal Court, where he entered a plea of not guilty. He is currently awaiting sentencing on a several aggravated burglary charges, receiving stolen property, felonious assault and aggravated menacing charges.
