Firefighter injured in Elyria house fire

A fire to an unoccupied home early Friday morning injured a firefighter, according to Assistant Fire Chief Tim Mitchell.

Mitchell said the firefighter twisted his leg fighting the blaze, but was treated and released at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and the family living in the adjacent unit safely escaped.

The fire started in an unoccupied unit at East Avenue and Sixth Street, causing approximately $80,000 in damages. The Elyria Fire Department received the call at 3:53 a.m. Friday.

Mitchell said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
