ELYRIA — Phone and Internet service are back up at Elyria Schools, according to spokeswoman Amy Higgins.
An outage that lasted most of the day affected Elyria High School, the administration building and the elementary schools. Higgins said the outage was due to repairs being made to the district’s electrical system. She added that the schools were able to make emergency calls out but couldn’t receive calls.
Elyria middle schools, which are still on an old phone system, were not affected, Higgins said.
Higgins added that the electrical work triggered the schools’ fire alarms, which might have caused people to see students evacuating the schools.
