ELYRIA – Police have identified the alleged burglar shot and killed in a Water Street home early this morning.
The burglar, Jeffrey Carson, 29, of the 700 block of W. Broad Street, was shot by the homeowner, Jack Dillon, after he allegedly broke into the home.
Dillon’s wife, Linda Dillon, called 9-1-1 after the shooting and told the dispatcher that her home was broken into the prior night, and she believed Carson had returned to finish the job. After the first burglary, the suspect had left the window unlocked, she said.
Lt. Andy Eichenlaub said Jack Dillon was sleeping downstairs on the couch with a gun nearby. Eichenlaub said Carson entered through the same window as the burglar on Thursday, but police are still investigating to determine whether Carson was involved in the first burglary.
Carson has an extensive criminal history including drug and breaking and entering convictions, according to court documents.
