Annie Bell Fields, 76, of Oberlin, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic, following a long illness. Mrs. Field was born in Okolona, Mississippi, coming to Oberlin, over 50 years ago after coming from South Bend, Indiana.
Mrs. Field was a homemaker, a member of Oberlin Senior Center, a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church in Oberlin where she served as a choir member also working on the church Scholarship Board, and prison ministry. She enjoyed needle point, collecting angels, doing puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Annie (William) Congress of Cleveland, Mary Anderson, Brenda Fields, both of Lorain, Cynthia (Leland) Trice of Elyria; sons, Eugene (Marsha) Shumate, Rev. Carlton J. (Gigi) Shumate; sister, Mable (Olin) Dunn of Oberlin; 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Fields; daughters, Barbara Ann Fields, Linda Fields and Kathy Stevenson; son, Gary Fields; sister, Pearl Hughes; brothers, James Gunn, Jr., Joseph Gunn and parents, James Sr. and Christine Gunn.
Friends may call Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in the Carter Funeral Homes, Inc. Chapel, 127 W. Bridge Street, Elyria, from 7 to 9 P.M. and Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. at Christ Temple Apostolic Church, 370 Lincoln St., Oberlin. District Elder Laurence E. Nevels, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin.
