INDIANAPOLIS – The Colts followed up their game-opening touchdown with another on their second drive in the second quarter. They went 76 yards in 14 plays to take a 14-6 lead over the Browns at halftime.
Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck converted three third downs, then scored his second rushing touchdown from 5 yards.
The Colts (2-3) have a good plan inside the 10-yard line, as they spread the defense and let Luck run or throw.
The Browns (1-5) matched Indianapolis’ first drive, but not the extra point.
Receiver Greg Little made a juggling 14-yard catch in the back of the end zone that withstood replay review early in the second quarter. It capped a 90-yard drive.
But punter/holder Reggie Hodges muffed the extra-point snap. He caught in cleanly, then dropped it as he tried to place it.
The Browns finally forced a punt in the final two minutes of the half. The offense didn’t get past midfield and a last-play Hail Mary fell incomplete.
Rookie running back Trent Richardson has 8 yards on eight carries. He is playing with a flak jacket to protect his injured rib cartilage.
