Billboards warning of voter fraud that critics said were an attempt to intimidate blacks into not voting are being removed locally and nationally, according to a Sunday news release from Common Cause, a liberal advocacy group.
The billboards were erected by the Clear Channel Corp., without disclaimers for who paid for them, against company policy.
Billboards erected in Elyria, such as this one on East Broad Street near East Bridge Street, and Lorain angered local politicians and NAACP leaders who said it was part of a voter suppression tactic and exaggerated the extent of voter fraud.
