Friday, Oct. 19
7:10 a.m. — 100 block Olive St., laundromat broken into and approximately $300 in change reported stolen from several dryer units.
9:06 a.m. — 200 block Market Drive, the manager of Texas Roadhouse contacted police after learning someone entered the restaurant overnight. The unknown person tried to open the cash registers and access the cash vault. Nothing was reported stolen.
12:54 p.m. — Chestnut Street, police arrested Angela Ramirez, 47, Elyria, with criminal trespassing for being at a Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority property after being banned by the housing organization. She also had four outstanding warrants.
2:37 p.m. — 100 block Yorkshire Court, a business, Lakeland Products, reported a break-in at one of its offices.
4:05 p.m. — 300 block Southwood Drive, couple returned home to find someone broke into their home, stealing three laptops and jewelry. A suspect was later arrested by the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office at the scene of another burglary and the couple’s items were returned.
4:34 p.m. — 1000 block Barbara St., a teenager returned home from school to find someone kicked open his back door and took several items, including two televisions, a Wii, a PlayStation 3 and an iPod Touch. A suspect was found, but not arrested. Police confiscated his boots to match with the boot print left on the door.
5:31 p.m. — 1000 Chestnut Commons Drive, police arrested Gerardo Rivera, 27, of Elyria, and charged him with theft — shoplifting.
7:58 p.m. — 300 block Kenyon Ave., woman returned home after an outing to find a window of her front door broken. It was a double pane glass door and only one glass was broken. No one made it inside the home.
Saturday, Oct. 20
5:20 p.m. — 100 block Denison Ave., Travis Gibson, 33, same address, arrested and charged with making false alarms. Police said in a recorded 911 complaint, Gibson falsely claimed that “there are 10 dudes in front of my house and they got guns.” The call was related to a family dispute involving Gibson.
Lorain
Thursday, Oct. 18
10 pm. — 2600 block East Erie Ave., woman reports someone entered her vehicle and took $10 in change and a Phillips DVD player. The suspect left behind a cell phone and dirty white sock. Police have no suspects at this time.
2:46 p.m. — 2900 block Apple Ave., reported burglary of a home.
3:42 p.m. — 3000 block Denver Ave., reported burglary of an unlocked home.
8:45 p.m.— Lakeview Plaza, Theotis Orr, 46, 300 block of W. 7th Street, arrested and charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct persisting. Police said Orr was outside of Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority’s building at Lakeview Plaza pounding on the door and refusing to leave. Police said Orr was evicted and barred from the building after he exposed himself to several women.
9:33 p.m. — 2400 block E. 28th Street, reported burglary of a home.
10 p.m. — 1300 block Shaffer Drive, Michael L. Toney, III, 20, 2100 block of Mark Drive, issued a citation for stop sign violation and driving under suspension. A passenger, Derrick Smith, 23, 900 block W. 21st St., arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
Friday, Oct. 19
2:20 a.m. — E. 19th Street, Timothy D. Wilson, 35, of Grafton, arrested and charged with speeding and possession of cocaine. Wilson denied cocaine officers found in his truck was his and said a friend must have dropped it in the truck. Police said Wilson had a former conviction for possession of cocaine, and he had several electronics and women’s jewelry in his vehicle that police believed may have been stolen.
2:31 a.m. — Oberlin Avenue near W. 21st Street, Luis E. Otero, 25, 1000 block W. 12th St., arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, driving under a 12 point suspension, impeding the flow of traffic, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police said Otero fell asleep at a traffic light and was intoxicated. Otero’s girlfriend, Melissa Villafane was cited for wrongful entrustment as Otero said she let him drive the vehicle. Villafane has a warrant through the Linndale Police Department for the same charge, according to police.
8:48 a.m. — 1000 block W. 12th St., a woman reported that someone burglarized her home while she was staying at her sister’s house. The suspect reportedly trapped her dog in the basement by pushing a refrigerator in front of the basement door.
Saturday, Oct. 20
3:40 p.m. — 2700 block Sherwood Drive, contractor said vacant home he was winterizing had $840 worth of copper piping stolen.
5:16 p.m. — 200 block E. Erie Ave., three juvenile males arrested and charged with attempted burglary. Residents told police they chased the boys, who were attempting to break into a home, and one resident identified one of the boys as being the boy she confronted in her home during an earlier burglary. One of the boys had a gym bag with a white face mask in it and he was carrying a small amount of marijuana and cotton gloves, according to police. Another was carrying two pairs of latex gloves.
6:30 p.m. — Lorain Police Department, 100 W. Erie Ave., woman said she went to visit a friend in the 2900 block of Eastlawn Ave., and was attacked in the home by a woman who struck her in the left arm with a lamp and then choked her, knocking the woman’s glasses off and scratching her face. Police said the alleged victim had scratches on her face and left eye. The report on the incident was forwarded to the city prosecutor’s office.
7:11 p.m. — 1000 block Kingsway Drive, woman said when she was walking to work around 7 a.m. on W. 21st. St., at Beech Ave., a man approached her and asked for a $1. When she told him he she didn’t have it, the woman — who police said had a right eye that was bruised and swollen — said the man punched her in the face and fled. The man was described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
8:34 p.m. — W. 24th St., and Oakdale Ave., Enrique Barretto, 27, 2400 block Washington Ave., Lorain, arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and no license plate light. Police said Barretto has five license suspensions and two previous convictions. Passenger Elijah Morris III, 36, of the 100 block of Riverside Street in Elyria, was charged with possession of marijuana. Police said they stopped the car Barretto was driving for not having a license plate light and, during a search of the car, found a small amount of marijuana.
10:45 p.m. — Pearl Village Apartments, 4223 Pearl Ave., Steven Zink, 23, same address, arrested and charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication and persistent disorderly conduct. Police said a drunken Zink refused to quiet down or return to his apartment as they conducted interviews after a fight at the apartment complex involving his friend and girlfriend and several other people.
Sunday, Oct. 21
1:30 a.m. — 800 block W. 9th St., building owner said back door to apartment he was renovating after an eviction was kicked open and a washer and dryer worth $600 were stolen.
4:08 a.m. — 4200 block Andover Ave., woman said car she parked outside her friend’s home had the windshield and rear window smashed and was scratched deeply on the sides. The woman suspects her friend’s jealous ex-husband.
5:55 a.m. — 4700 block Oberlin Ave., Kenya Jeans, 33, 1100 block Washington Ave., Lorain, arrested and charged with violation of a temporary protection order. Police said they found Jeans in the apartment of his girlfriend, who has a protection order against him. They said Jeans has three domestic violence convictions.
