Donald J. Love, 79, of Lorain, went to be home with the Lord Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, in Lorain, following a long illness. Don was born in Lorain April 11, 1933, the son of the late Gilbert J. Love and Doris M. (nee Quillen) Love Latella.
He was a graduate of Lorain High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was very proud of his country and very proud to have served his country. Don worked at Jack Edward’s service stations on Erie Avenue for several years. He retired from the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant as a forklift operator in the stock department. In 1987 he retired after 28 years of service.
He served on the Lorain Health Department Board, the Lorain Port Authority Board, was president for several terms of the North Coast Stein & Brewery Collectors Club, a member of the NRA and a member of the American Legion Post # 30. Don drove limousine for the Love’s Limousine Service that was owned by his wife. He was a long time member of the Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church. Music was one of his great loves, he was a drummer for his own band the “D J Combo” for over 50 years. He played in many clubs and night spots locally and was responsible for many young musicians getting their start in the music business. He also played with many other local groups over the years in this area. Don met his wife, Sue, through music, as she sang with his band for a while. They would have been married for 45 years this November.
Surviving are his loving wife, Sue A. (nee Meyers); his son, Bradley J. (Kriste) Love of New Palestine, Indiana; and his grandchildren, Nicholas and Chloe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, James Latella; and a brother, Paul Love.
Friends may call Friday, October 26, 2012, from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 P.M., in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 11 A.M., in the funeral home, with Evangelist Bob Eddy, of the Toledo Road Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park, with full military honors provided jointly by the American Legion Post #30 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 451.

The family wishes to especially thank the staff of both Anchor Lodge and New Life Hospice for the excellent and loving care given to Don during his stay with them.
