DUI checkpoints planned in Elyria tonight

The State Highway Patrol will conduct two sobriety checkpoints in Elyria tonight.

According to the patrol, checkpoints will be set up in the area of Lake Avenue and Lowell Street and near the police station in the area of Lake and West avenues from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The checkpoints, funded by federal grants, are meant to deter and intercept impaired drivers, according to a news release from the Highway Patrol.

The checkpoints will be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols, according to a news release.

“If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink,” the news release said. “Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.”
