ELYRIA — A Neighborhood Alliance delivery driver leapt into action Friday after realizing that an elderly client was in trouble.
The Senior Nutrition driver, Jimmy Torres, was delivering meals Friday morning when he noticed a client’s door, which is usually open, was unlocked. Torres heard a faint cry for help through the door and immediately called 911, according to a news release from the Neighborhood Alliance.
Elyria fire Lt. Dean Marks said firefighters arrived at the Spruce Street home at 10:50 a.m. and took out an air-conditioning unit to enter the home. Mark said the woman had fallen and was lying on the floor, unable to get up.
Marks said he believed the woman was OK but was not sure if she was transferred to the hospital. A representative of the Neighborhood Alliance wrote in the release that it was unclear how long the woman had been on the ground, and there was no telling how long she would have remained there if Torres hadn’t delivered the meal.
