Crowds await Mitt Romney visit in Avon Lake

AVON LAKE — Avon Lake High School’s gym is packed this morning with people awaiting the arrival of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

A line snaked around the outside of the school with people standing in the cold wind and rain waiting to get inside for the event, which is scheduled to begin before the noon hour.

Inside, the crowd is loud as music plays over the loud speakers. Campaign signs for local candidates and Romney have been put up around the gym. One Romney sign, folded into a paper airplane, sailed over the crowd’s heads.

This is the second time Romney has visited Lorain County this election season. He appeared at the shuttered National Gypsum plant in Lorain just a day after his Democratic rival, President Barack Obama, was at Lorain County Community College in April.

Romney’s visit comes a week after Vice President Joe Biden held a rally at Lorain High School.
