AVON LAKE — Local supporters of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney are warming up the crowd before Romney takes the stage in the Avon Lake High School gym before a capacity crowd that includes students at the school.
A.J. Torres, the Republican candidate for Lorain County sheriff, summed up the reason for Romney’s visit today. The former Massachusetts governor is locked in a tight race with President Barack Obama and Ohio is widely considered key to the Republican winning the race.
“The road to the White House starts right here in Avon Lake,” Torres told the boisterous crowd.
Republican presidential candidates have carried Avon Lake in the past three presidential elections.
Avon Lake City Councilwoman Jennifer Fenderbosch blamed Obama for the problems in the economy and accused him of policies that have had a negative impact on women in the workforce.
