Paul S. Novak, 90, of Elyria, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Olmsted Manor Skilled Nursing Center. He was born June 9, 1922 in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Paul served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked for American Standard, Tappan, and Smith & Jones as a Millwright, retiring with over 45 years of service. Paul was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, American Legion Post#12, lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #1079, Elyria United Polish Club, Purple Heart Chapter, 83rd Thunderbolts, and was a lifetime member of Disabled Vets.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Amelia J. (nee Koepke); two sons, Rodger P. (Paula) of Amherst, Mark A. (Shelley) of Wellington; eight grandchildren, Kim Barbee (Victor) of Elyria, Tina Frazier (Wayne) of Paige, Virginia, Michael Novak (Kiki) of Lorain, Matthew Novak of Amherst, Ryan Novak (Stacey) of Huntsville, Alabama, Lyndsey Novak (Josh) of Plant City, Florida, Taylor Novak and Halley Novak, both of Wellington; great grandchildren, Victor and Devin Barbee of Elyria; a sister, Helen Howdyshell (Al) of Elyria; a brother, Paul “Junior” (Linna) of Lorain.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Magdaline (nee Kocolowska) Novak; a sister, Mary Radke; and three brothers, Pete, John and Harry.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria, 440-322-4626, where funeral service will be at 12 Noon, Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Rev. Jim Herbolsheimer, Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Twp., where V.F.W. Post #1079 will provide full military honors.
